One hour with a former colleague and friend who I haven’t seen in a couple years. In the 2 or 3 years since we worked together, we have each gone through deep struggles to hold a place in the system where we can foster meaningful engaging opportunities for children. Each of us had moments of feeling alone without a team.
Now I realize that even when we weren’t working on the same project or even talking beyond Facebook, we were actually working in unity.
In my mind, I am seeing the faces of each of my colleagues here and across the country who are working for a common cause.
Again, Marge Piercy’s poem, “The Low Road,” inspires me, and my list of comrades strengthens my resolve.
