Another story from Zach Serrano about what keeps him going as a teacher in these times.
Just a note about Zach’s context: his school was designated a turnaround school. They are on their third principal in 4 years. Last year the teacher turnover was 80%. This year, everyone is staying.
He said, “There are little moments like shortly before November break. Every Monda morning, we circle up and since it was right before Thanksgiving we shared what we’re thankful for. The new Chinese teacher said, “I love it here. I m staying. I’m coming back next year.” The end of October is one of worst times and she says, “I love it here.”
There’ve been moments throughout the year where we believe things can be different. I don’t have to always be in that fight now—there are others also to protect the integrity of our school.
