Action

January 12, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

I must lose myself in action, lest I wither in despair.”

–Alfred, Lord Tennyson

When I had too many disturbing conversations  about what was going on in a school, I found a classroom where I could work with kids on their writing. The adult words and complaints from the day moved to the back of my mind.

As I left work that day, it was the kids’ faces and thoughts that filled my mind instead of sad conversations with adult about all that is going wrong.

When there are so many things are going wrong in our communities and our world that are so much bigger than our power to fix, it might be even more important to take find an action to take, whether it is a letter or phone call to a politician, an act of kindness to someone in need, physical movement….we are biological beings who need to do something  to keep our emotions and thoughts from getting stuck.
