If we achieved current mandate that every child will graduate career or college ready, we would have a different society. If the people in power are serious about this goal, they are charging teachers with being social activists—if every child is able to find a meaningful place in this society, that would be major social change.

Whatever we teach, whatever we teach, whatever they actually learn, each moment is part of a bigger picture within which that learning will fit in students’ lives.
