Multiplication is for White People by Lisa Delpit

Boys and Girls Club of Denver

November 15, 2014 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

While many human beings are causing suffering in this world,  I wish I could figure out a way to count how many people are spending their time easing and preventing that suffering. There could be legions, which would shift my sometimes gloomy perspective on where we are going as a species. Maybe I could just count the people I know.

Spent three hours last night with seriously committed strong hearted young people who work for Boys and Girls Clubs of Denver.  Their youthful idealism is grounded in real work, real challenges, real impact. I am heartened knowing about their care for younger people who  could use someone to listen, guide, be there for them.

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is the way great spiritual giants are produced.” Swami Vivekananda
