The cat, having sat upon a hot stove lid, will not sit upon a hot stove lid again. But he won’t sit upon a cold stove lid, either.”
–Mark Twain
Incorrect assumptions based on misguided logic leading to stereotyping and as we’re now realizing…frequent shootings of innocent young men, mostly of color, mostly black.
While past experiences and stories are my main guide to navigate my world, I see a crucial extra step, especially working with young people in schools. I need to keep my mind open to check my assumptions based on past events. I need to make sure I’m taking in all information to determine if a particular ‘stove lid’ is indeed something that will hurt me.
