Faith in Colleagues

July 31, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

To my colleagues in Iowa who felt like old friends after just a couple hours in a windowless room talking about ourselves and  our practice.

Wherever I go I meet teachers who remind me of other teachers I know. I’ve started to notice some aspects of certain types–those whose hearts are in their faces and voices, those with a tough persona who slowly reveal the deep passion and caring, those who have endlessly learned about the art and craft of teaching, those who take risks and dive in and volunteer or ask questions or show their vulnerability.

I know we are each a combination of many traits and leanings–a soft heart does not preclude toughness.

In fact, there is often one trait that binds us all–we care so much about doing a good job for our kids, our colleagues, our community. We are grateful when we have a chance to support and be supported to that end.

With gratitude for every time I am reminded of the reason to have faith in my colleagues in this profession.
