Kids thinking

May 28, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

What kids think……

1. In response to a prompt on a reflection sheet that stated, “If I knew I could not fail, I would…”, Nate completed the sentence by writing, “do everything.”

2. Inspired by a poem written by Bridging the Gap members, an ELK Grove (CA) High School SEED Group,in response to the film “A Place at the Table” and to Langston Hughes’ poem “I Too.” (Dianna Shoop, SEED Facilitator and Elk Grove High School teacher).

Just because I am Mexican

Doesn’t mean I’m not wealthy

It doesn’t mean I’ll get my girlfriend pregnant

at the age of 14.

I have always done my best.

Just because a Mexican gets killed

doesn’t mean it was suicide

But it doesn’t mean I don’t have the same ambitions as others.

I have great potential that can be shared

Is there a place at the table for me?

Daniel
