Resolve

August 4, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

Even if we can never, finally, win for good, I take heart in how many of us there are who will keep fighting, each in our own way, against the corporate power that is destroying lives of people, plants, animals, our planet.

I have understood that it is not professional in our field to be emotional yet…my heart breaks over and over. Every time I hear someone blame teachers for what happens to children in our education system. Every time I see a student’s voice ignored, a student give up on understanding, a student berated and humiliated. My hearts hurts for every woman I see with a cardboard sign on a street corner. Every young person’s post on facebook that says once again “I didn’t get the job.”   I’m sad and angry for the billions of dollars that corporate executives have and now use as an offer to schools if we will do it their way because they are the experts in education.

We hold on  even if our voices are faint compared to the clever marketing that money can buy. We keep trying to provide a good school day, thoughtful health care, sustainable living habits.  We are still be here.
