RIP Grant Wiggins

May 30, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

I have always been thankful for Grant Wiggins who helped us find ways to keep authentic meaningful student learning  not just in our thoughts but in our practice. His legacy along with his frequent partner Jay McTighe of understanding by design, backwards design, quality rubrics took hold with teachers, administrators, school district directors, to strengthen opportunities for learning.

He was still leading our thinking forward. I didn’t always agree with him.

In his memory, I am going to spend some time reading what he wrote years ago and what he wrote most recently. I suspect there is more that he has offered that I haven’t yet gotten. We can still keep learning from him and talking about his ideas. And still, a very sad loss.
