The strength of teachers

December 12, 2014 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

“Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain.” Lily Tomlin

I think tonight discipline is called for instead of language.

End of semester crunch before the holidays while our nation slides further down a slippery slope (any glimmers of hope?) — I am determined to give my complaints and the accompanying emotions a rest with a chance to subside by morning.

Even though my daily frustrations have been deeply connected to the bigger picture of so many terrible events and sufferings, I will keep my complaints in their place in the scheme of things and of what I can do anything about tonight.

These times have pushed me always harder to manage my emotions and energy with a big picture perspective, a long haul determination. This is nothing new to people who get up at 5am every day to teach and lead crowds of kids.

And so, I put this week to rest, once again reminded of the  strength of teachers.
