When I look at what is going on in our world today and in our schools, I am not sure where the line exists between mean-spirited, selfish or unaware and true evil. I see the long lasting consequences for our children in the interest of profit and political agendas, and I suspect this might qualify as evil.
On the seventieth anniversary of Auschwitz’ liberation, people who survived what our culture holds as a paragon of evil, told their stories. They are not just inspiring. They are lessons about what is possible in the human spirit in spite of directly experiencing evil. I am thankful to the survivors who share their stories, what it took for them to survive the horror and then go on living in this world afterward.
What lessons do I take during these times of schools and other social nets under siege and innocent people are killed?
There was often some bit of luck, or chance, and then strength of all sorts. Though they were all going through similar assaults on their beings, each person has a unique story.
