Survival of the Soul

March 21, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

Spring arrived while testing took over Denver Public Schools–not just in the last two weeks when kids took the tests but for weeks before as new schedules were developed and revived, teachers were trained to monitor, technology capacity was figured out, parents decided if they wanted to opt out of testing for their children.

Now there is a week before spring break. Crocuses and daffodils are blooming here. The temperature is a little hotter than we might expect. The sun doesn’t sink until well into the evening.

What will teachers do with this opportunity for instruction? Maybe teachers will feel like they can take some chances to try something new for deeper lasting learning.  I hope to see some joy, life,  ease and active learning.

Victor Hugo wrote that “the reappearance of the light is the same as survival of the soul.”
