Take the lead

May 19, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

“The more we can build democratic, community-led, and self-funded activity, the more likely it is that the folks with money will be forced to follow rather than to lead.”
See Dru Oja Jay Review in Briar Patch Magazine of Naomi Klein’s book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate

This is a statement to think about as we look for actions and steps. What fits here? Starting a different kind of school? Seattle teachers walk out? Critical pedagogy in a classroom? Flattening the hierarchy among a faculty in a school?

How do we get ahold of the lead here?

First, carry the consciousness of the democratic just world we want and use that as  the filter to judge everything we do from organizing conferences and meeting so that every voice is equally valued to speaking with our colleagues to how we organize our classrooms.
