Tradition of Songs About School

July 1, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

While its summer and most of us are not in school every day, a good time to follow a history of songs about school. Hearing these songs at different times in my life often spoke my thoughts, my feelings, my anger and my sadness. And probably influenced my outrage.

Interesting now to go through a list and see what our popular culture has to say to our youth about school. What do we think about the general messages in most of our pop/rock/folk songs about school in America?

Starting with a relatively old one from the early 60’s.
