Words from Ancient Times

October 8, 2015 / Marjorie Larner / What We Can Do

“Justice in the life and conduct of the State is possible only as first it resides in the hearts and souls of the citizens.”    Plato

Even if we have always faced a struggle for justice as human beings in organized State, there have been times when the scales tipped toward the common  good, when as Martin Luther King said, the universe bent toward justice. It is perhaps our continued struggle, never giving up, keeping the pressure on for justices, that tips the scales in  that direction and not the other.

We can help our students feel what justice is when we operate our schools and classrooms so they get to experience what it is. If we don’t, it will not reside in their hearts or souls — they will not push for what they don’t know for themselves.
